The Best Accounting Firms for Women

I recently stumbled on a very interesting ranking of the 10 best accounting firms for women. It was published in 2010 as part of the first edition of  the annual Accounting/MOVE Project which is co-sponsored by the American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA) and the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants (AWSCPA), supported by launch partners Moss Adams LLP and BDO, and managed by Wilson-Taylor Associates, Inc. The Accounting/Move Project is a national survey research effort to measure and advance women at public accounting firms and corporate accounting employers. The project is based on the MOVE methodology, developed by research partner Wilson-Taylor Associates, Inc. to capture the factors proven essential to women’s career success:
– Money: fair pay practices
– Opportunity: advancement and leadership development
– Vital supports: work-life programs that remove barriers
– Entrepreneurship: operating experience for managing or business ownership

According to the 2010 Accounting/MOVE Project, ranked in alphabetical order, the 10 best accounting firms for women are:
BDO, New York
Berry Dunn McNeil & Parker, Portland, ME
The Bonadio Group, Pittsford, NY
CCR LLP, Westborough, MA
Hood & Strong, San Francisco, CA
Jones & Roth, Eugene, OR
Moss Adams, Seattle, WA
Rothstein Kass, Roseland, NJ
William Vaughan Company, Maumee, OH

Wiss & Co., Livingston, NJ

The Best Firms were selected from the 20 accounting firms that participated in the 2010 Accounting/MOVE Project. This just means that the ranking would have assuredly been much different if many more firms had participated in the study. It however only makes sense that the sample size of participating firms is going to expand with every future edition of the Accounting/Move Project. This is an initiative that ought to be saluted because never before had a ranking for the best accounting firms for women previously been released.

Thanks for the shout-out for the Accounting MOVE Project! My firm manages the project, and we are in the midst of our 2011 research cycle, with results due out in a couple months.

We're looking for twentysomething women to interview for this year's executive report, which will take a deep dive into recruiting and advancing millennials.

Do you think your firm should be a candidate for the Top Firms for Women?
