Accounting Internship Programs

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Please see below a list of public accounting firms that have established internship programs in tax and audit. This list is not meant to be all inclusive. Each firm listed under a specific region will have offices in at least one of that region’s member states. For instance, Schenck Business Solutions, which is listed under the East North Central (Midwest) has office locations only in the state of Wisconsin. What this list aims to achieve is to narrow your internship search down to your preferred geographical region of the U.S.

How do you get an internship if you are doing an online program with the school in a different state from where you live?

    • Laura:

Thank you for visiting The Student CPA blog and for being kind enough to submit a question.
Most students are offered internship position through university career fairs. However, let me point out to you that most traditional students have a hard time securing an internship position before they graduate. Since you are not a traditional student, by this I mean you are a distance learning student, you will need to get a little more creative with how you go about conducting your search for an internship position. For instance you could enroll in one class at a campus near where you live so you can gain access to campus job fairs. Additionally, you will need to spend a good bit of time networking with current accounting professionals. You might have to become an active member of your state's society of CPAs, it is more than likely that they offer a student membership program. You might have to do some cold calling to prospective employers in the area where you live to see if they can bring you in for an interview. You know what they say, it's not what you know but who you know. I hope you find my answer to your inquiry satisfactory.

It is very helpful. Thank you :)

When do you think is the good time to apply for a summer accounting internship?

    Thanks.

    • Alex:

Thank you for for visiting my blog and for taking the time to ask a question. There is no single answer to your question. There are a few things that need to be taken into account including but not limited to the number of accounting courses you already have taken, the recruiting criteria as well as schedule of the companies you might be targeting, and your university's college of business internship program eligibility criteria. As far as the accounting internships are concerned, they usually take place either during the spring or during the summer. Therefore, my advice to you is that you get in touch with the person in charge of the internship program within your university's college of business. Additionally, you should be contacting the companies where you would like to do your internship to get a clear idea of how the recruiting process works.

      I hope this helps.
